The Emergency Sensory Kit

Cover of The Emergency Sensory Kit, ATypical Family Kit No. 09 — a free guide to building a grab-and-go sensory kit.

Amazon provides the products. We provide the plan.

The overwhelm never checks your schedule first.

The grocery line. The airport gate. The birthday party three houses down. You can't control the fire alarm at the museum — you can control having the right five things within arm's reach when the input tips over.

Free. Enter your email and it's yours.

The guide

  • The core kit — five channels of input in one small pouch: sound, hands, mouth, pressure, reset
  • The five-location plan, because one kit at home doesn't help you at the airport
  • A shop-ready cart split into CORE and ADD-ON
  • The restock ritual that keeps a kit from quietly going empty

The printable pages — print and fill in

  • Your calm-down card — four to a page, cut and laminate, one for every bag
  • Five kits, once a month — a restock tracker, because a kit you think is stocked is worse than no kit at all

Pairs with The Calm Corner Blueprint — also free — which lays out the regulation space this kit makes portable.

We're parents, not OTs. Every child's sensory profile is different, and an occupational therapist is the one who can assess yours. This kit is about being ready in the moment. If something here doesn't work for your child, that's information, not failure.

Weighted tools: never more than 10% of your child's body weight, never for sleep, and never on a child who can't take it off themselves. Clear it with your OT or pediatrician first.

Small parts: fidgets, pop-its, and chewables are choking hazards for children who still mouth objects. Check every piece monthly and retire anything split or bitten through.
