Not a timeout corner. A place a dysregulated nervous system can come back to itself.
A calm corner works when your child starts heading there before the storm, not just during it. This is the build guide that gets you there — in an afternoon, at whatever budget you're working with.
What's inside
- The five zones of a working corner: base, deep pressure, sound, sight, and mouth & hands
- What each kind of input actually does, in plain language
- A shop-ready cart split into CORE (start here) and ADD-ON (layer in later)
- A four-step afternoon build — including how to introduce the space so it never reads as punishment
The printables — coming this fall
- Feelings identification charts
- Breathing technique cards
- Visual regulation reminders
- Calm choices menu
- Reward and motivation charts
Free, same as the guide. Get on the list and they'll land in your inbox as soon as they're ready.
A note on weighted tools: a weighted lap pad should never exceed 10% of your child's body weight, and it's worth running past your OT or pediatrician first.
Supervision: enclosed tents and oral tools such as chew necklaces should be introduced with supervision and sized for your child.
We're parents, not therapists. This guide helps you build a toolkit and learn the language. It isn't an assessment or a treatment plan — your child's occupational therapist is the one to build that.
